Having your own recording studio is a wonderful thing, it gives you freedom of musical exploration and creativity and there are no expensive fees involved like there would be if you were recording at a big major studio - it is completely yours.
However the equipment that you buy is very important, this can really determine whether the sounds you are creating actually sound good or not on other systems. This is where some important decisions come into play on what your budget is and how big you actually want the studio itself, because home studios don't have to be that big or they could take up whole rooms, instead of just the corner of a bedroom.
One of the most important pieces of equipment that you are going to need tor really invest in is the speakers, or Studio Monitors as they are more widely known. These are not like ordinary Hi-Fi speakers that have bass boosters on them etc.; these are usually flat line response so everything is equal. This enables you to get a tight mix and really make your music shine on other systems.
The most obvious thing here though is - the more money you put in, the better Studio Monitors you are going to end up with, it really is that simple. That isn't to say however that some lower budget Studio Monitors aren't any good because some of them are fantastic and sound extremely nice but the higher end, more professional speakers are why they are some of the best on the market and you can only usually find them in more professional, experienced studio environments.
Depending on what type of music you are going to make determines what equipment you use. If you are just going to make Electronic music, which is purely synthesis, then getting yourself a computer that can hold the load and process all the information is definitely a good idea. Another big factor is which DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) you are going to use. There are some that are more popular than others which are usually the big industry standard DAW's. These can also prove to be quite expensive in price.
If you want to make more acoustic type music, then microphones also play a huge part. These also determine how well sound is picked up form your recording environment and it should also be quite acoustically sound. This can be done by placing acoustic panels around your room which stops sound from creating standing waves when refracting from the environment. Microphones are also quite expensive but like Studio Monitors there can be some good budget ones out there - it is all about shopping around and looking for the best deals.
