Would you make your own guitar case?...Would you make your own case for your amp? probably not and why not? Because they are valuable and precious to you and you would want to keep them in good condition, right? So why would you make your own pedal board case and risk damaging all of your pedals? Guitar effects pedals cost a lot of money so trying to make your own pedal board is not a good idea if you want to keep them in good condition.
I have spent a lot of time reading about guitarists and bassists who are trying to find out how to make their own pedal board case. The main reason that people are doing this is because they think its cheaper but it's really not. Once you buy all the materials to build your case and take the time do make it, it's not worth it.
You will not be able to protect your pedals effectively and your case will probably have to be repaired often as it wont be made to a quality standard. Remember, Effects pedals are very expensive, especially if you have a lot of them so it is well worth protecting them properly. I bet you wouldn't think about making a case for your brand new Gibson or stratocaster would you!? So what can you do?
The Easy Solution
It still amazes me why people spend hundreds of dollars on effects pedals only to try to make a cheap DIY pedal board case. Instead of doing this and spending forever trying to find out how to make your own pedal board, you should invest in a proper one. These are available in loads of different sizes and prices so you will be able to find one that suits you. Investing in a good one will allow you to easily transport and set up your effects pedals. But most of all your effects pedals will be 100% protected from damage so you wont have to worry about them. As well as this they will be kept in good condition so you can sell them later if you want to.
The best thing you could do is to forget about trying to make your own pedal board case because you will not be satisfied with it in the long run, trust me I tried it! As well as this it could result in damage to your pedals and as a result it will cost you more money to repair them.
